The Stoughton High School Norwegian Dancers 1950s Wayback Machine

One of the things that makes the Stoughton High School Norwegian Dancers special is its longevity. The group is now in its 70th year. That works out to be about three generations.

In this day and age where so much is temporary or short term, we think it is special to have a 70-year tradition. With that in mind, we hope that this page featuring pictures of dancers from years past will help illustrate that tradition and hopefully inspire people to send in pictures from years, dancers, and performances gone by.

Alumni and Current Director with First and Second Generation Dancers

Staci, in the middle, is the current director of the Stoughton Norwegian Dancers. She is also an alumni dancer (class of 1985). Next to her are two generations of alumni dancers, Tom (son) and Roy (father). Roy was a Norwegian Dancer in the first year of the group's existence - 1953. Tom was a Norwegian Dancer from 1981 to 1983. Roy’s granddaughters (and Tom’s nieces), Erin, Mara, and Sydney, are current Norwegian Dancers. So by my count that makes three generations of Norwegian Dancers! Picture was taken at the conclusion of the first outdoor performance of the year for the group at the Destination Stoughton event October 27th.

This photo was taken in the 1954-55 school year. The girl in the forefront with the beaded bodice, whose face we can see, as Sylvia (Dahl) Stevens and the boy behind her (whose face we see) is Roger Horner.
